Our culture teaches us to train kids not to talk to strangers, as though kidnappers with sick intentions for them lurked around every corner.
More realistically, they are 161 times more likely to be abducted by someone they know well, as opposed to an anonymous stranger (though of course there are still extremely low odds of them ever being abducted at any point in their lives at all.)
And at the low end of those low odds, it’s STILL more likely that it would be someone like this; someone who doesn’t really want to hurt them, but has some variety of dementia or delusion.
The basic, primitive animal instinct to protect ANY child is deeply rooted and extremely strong in just about every human being… a fact taken shameless advantage of by advertisers, lobbyists and fake charities (and the mostly real ones) to get us to hand over money by making some absurd statement implying children will be harmed if we don’t.
I got a little off topic. I missed one of my points.
Your kid is special to YOU; to an anonymous stranger, she’s just a random nameless kid, of little interest. Our hypothetical (and still 1-in-10-million) creepy pedophile is FAR more likely to take an unhealthy interest in a kid he knows well enough to have a personal connection to.
Banta about adoptions is one thing. Carrying around adoption papers, now thats just creepy. Funny in a comic, but creepy.
Summer has the right idea.
Hey now. You never know when adoption papers for kids you’d like to adopt could come in handy.
Huh? I’m alive? I’M ALIII-
What? Oh dear. Suddenly all those other parents who adopted the girls don’t seem so bad anymore…
Heh. She may be a tad too eager, huh?
I’m sure Mrs. Mimsy is a sweet lady…or a homicidal maniac. I can’t quite tell. 😛
A sweet homicidal maniac lady?
For a weird reason
She puts in my head, the image of the old lady from the visit by M night shyamalan.
yahtzee!
Hm. Never saw that one.
“…sign these papers” eh? We only have her word for it that those are ADOPTION papers! What ELSE could she have up her sleeve, hmmm? O.o
Oh, the horrors…

YOUR kid is boring. 😛
