I don’t mean to sound like the SJW of the group, but even from a story line point of view, this seems a bit odd.
Put it this way, you have Hannah, who in the larger arc was given a black eye from an abusive foster parent, much to Fred’s anger and disgust.
Yet now you have fred, giving public bare butt spankings to the same girl, and her sisters; without any consideration to their age, the characters’ dignity, or how beating kids over accidentally charging apps to his account seems a little.
Other than that, the pun is pretty funny, did someone make an “Ipaddle” joke in the comments once?
Just found the delivery a bit too much personally.
No offence meant.
No offense taken! I see your point and I understand where you’re coming from.
For me personally, though, this is where the “meh, it’s just a comic” mentality kicks in. In the comics I read growing up, the ones that either directly or indirectly influenced Twice the Triplets, spanking was the “de facto” punishment for mischievous kids, and generally presented as not being that big of a deal. But I would certainly not advocate it in real life, and I can see how, given some of the more serious storylines of the past, it might seem a bit out of place.
That aside, I do want to point out that the kids charging apps to Fred’s account was not accidental! They knew full well what they were doing (although they may not have realized how MUCH they spent altogether), which is what prompts Fred’s reaction. I hope this wasn’t too unclear in the comic.
It may be just a comic, true, but stripping underaged girls in public elicits a pretty different reaction than mere admittedly-justified corporal punishment… as you can see from the sort of comments it generates.
You can spank kids just as well with their pants up; clothes aren’t that much protection.
Think of it this way: It’s distracting your readers from the joke, arguably killing the joke for several of us, and the joke still works exactly as well with their drawers on.
…unless you’re building to another plotline where Fred is mistaken for a pedophile?
Poor Dani, that’s what little self esteem she had down the drain. Things could only be worse if Tommy happen to walk by.
I do wonder if this is a bit much. A spanking in the privacy of the family, with the hand on a clothed butt is one thing. But a public spanking (pants down at that) with an object? I’m just not sure if it fits Fred’s character
I guess that’s just third time when last panel is sort of symbolic exaggeration: Fred was not arrested, Skye was not nearly dead and Big Three did not get public bare butt spanking. But it certainly felt nearly as awful for all of them.
Funny comic, I love it! And yes, I understand the objections of the audience, but I’m with you, Berg, it IS “just a comic.” I would certainly never do or advocate such a thing for real children, but in this context I find it perfect and hilarious. Recently, in “Sandra & Woo” a character there, Cloud, asked his mom if there was anything she hated in childhood but now loved. Without thinking, she blurted out, “Getting spanked.” Again, not the sort of thing any boy wants to hear from his mother, but in that comic it was one of the funniest jokes I’d seen in a long time, which was reflected by others in the comment section. So, you keep writing the comic as you see fit, it’s great!
Quick follow up with a question: I’m wondering, are you open to working on another comic? I have a script, but I need an artist. Curious to know if you’re open to that and have the time.
Man I wish I could do another comic right now! I actually have a bunch of ideas for comics that I want to create but unfortunately, Twice the Triplets is taking up most of my free time as it is – the main comic primarily, as well as a little extra something I am trying to get off the ground…
Until that changes I doubt I’ll have much time for anything else. Having said that, feel free to e-mail me if you want to discuss your ideas anyway.
In my day, short, simplistic computer games were free. You’d just go to newgrounds or kongregate or someplace like that… then these ridiculous locked-down phones come out doing an inferior job of everything computers did, with no flash support, so they declare ‘flash is obsolete!’
They say html5 could do everything it did, but you don’t see any homemade html5 games.
Ah yes. I also remember the days of flash games. I tried creating some stuff in flash at one point. Lost pretty much all of it in a hard drive crash. Good times.
I completely agree with Andrew Berg. It’s just a comic, and is a callback to a lot of famous comics back in the day, which is neat for an older lady like myself. I feel like your vision has entertained everyone for a couple years back and you should still write and draw what you like. It’s also clear the triplets have not been too damaged from it, considering their strong relationship with Fred. That said, it was surprising, since the Big 3 are usually the better behaved girls. Chloe has struck me as the most bratty one needing a comeuppance, but of course, we almost always see the little 3.
I think it’s funny how every once in a while in the comments, people will talk about how bratty Chloe is… Yet according to the polls, she’s one of the most popular characters among readers. 😀
I may have a clue in that.
Sam Clemens said it better than I can.
He said “When I was 14, my father was an idiot and i couldn’t stand to be around him.
When I was 21, he was a genius.
It is astounding how much that man learned in those 7 years.”
a reporter in the audience noted all the adults laughed at the statement and all the kids/teens looked clueless.
In that era, some households still had razor strops, a fearsome spanking implement. Nowadays, kids the triplets’ age have probably never heard of a razor strop, much less been spanked with one.
On the other hand, in that era, computers were huge machines which filled entire rooms. Kids of my era never had to worry about being spanked with a computer, at least.
Oh yeah… and while I do believe the last panel would constitute child abuse IF it were real, it is, after all, just a comic strip. I’m with Berg on this one.
A pen-and-ink spanking never did a comic-strip-character-child any harm! And let’s face it… sometimes a trip over ficticious Uncle Fred’s knee is the only language a make-believe triplet understands!!!! 😉
Not worth it, Fred. The spanking app charges microtransactions on every swing.
Heh. 🙂
Some “built-in feature”, that will destroy the whole tablet!
Stop using it, Fred! It`s DEFINITELY not worth it! lol
Hey, if the tablet survives, that will at least render the whole Apple vs. Android debate moot. Clearly the superior tablet is the iPaddle!
Maybe Fred has a really good case on it?
It must be a Panasonic Toughbook, not ment to be used that way but it does have potential as the girls found out. Fred is improving.
That’s probably it’s most USEFUL feature. ^^
Taking a bit of a risk giving a public pants-down paddling to three girls, Fred – though Mrs. Mimsy doesn’t seem to be objecting.
A bare bottom spanking? You are getting brave Fred and Berg. Though I think it would benefit Chole more. lol Those poor triplets.

I would argue that it /is/ the joke, and without it, there is no comic.

Some positive attention really is overdue for poor Dani.

And I remember that Sandra & Woo strip. Quite a different situation I would say, but it was a pretty funny one.

Right here. 🙂

Chole I think will always manage to slip away. She seems to smart to be near her sister or Fred if she pulls something. l

Back in the 1960’s, I was the triplets’ age.
In that era, some households still had razor strops, a fearsome spanking implement. Nowadays, kids the triplets’ age have probably never heard of a razor strop, much less been spanked with one.

Sooo, if I’ve got this correct, Kiley is the only triplet who hasn’t been spanked directly in-frame as of yet (not counting aftereffects).
I wouldn’t be surprised if that chances. XD
